When Vietnamese Football Analysis Yields Only 'Insufficient Information'

Last week, I received a nine-page analysis of Vietnamese football full of charts and frameworks. Almost every conclusion ended with the same phrase: insufficient information. Rather than a failure, that document is a mirror of Vietnamese football: brilliant on the surface but struggling to translate emotion into measurable knowledge. Modern football relies on expected goals, pressing indicators, and positional data. Vietnamese clubs often rely on instinct, short video clips, and reputation. The solution is not expensive software first. It is cultural: teach coaches and scouts to record what they see, build simple spreadsheets from phone footage, and question inherited decisions. Data will not replace the human eye; it will strengthen it. I predict at least three V.League clubs will create formal data-analysis units before the 2026-27 season. When that happens, empty templates will begin to fill with answers and, more importantly, with better questions.
